Weightwatchers Points: Strategic Food Planning

Brown rice spaghetti, spinach, and
turkey meat sauce
I am immersed in my Smartpoints. I am sold into it, and I am already reaping the rewards. I am a label reader, a strategic food planner, and a believer that food is our best friend and our worst enemy, depending on our relationship with it.

As in all things, moderation is key. Eat as often as you like but eat in moderation. As here in this picture, one cup of most carbohydrates per meal is enough to sustain the body to fulfill its functions. Here I have a cup of brown rice pasta (yes, there is such a thing!), spinach, and ground turkey in spaghetti sauce.

I love the Weightwatchers program. I wanted to eat spaghetti today with meat. I did not want to compromise that by eating some plastic food or some frozen food, or some doctored/laboratory version, or TV dinner, or packaged food. I wanted to cook my food from scratch or as close to scratch as I can get.

At church this morning, we were offered free donuts, lemonade, and coffee. What do you think? Of course, I went to get my share! I avoided the SUGAR-LOADED lemonade and went for coffee. I squandered 6 points on that breakfast. No, the donut was not glazed. Glazed is 7 SPV (Smartpoints value). I spent 5 points on donut and one point on the Coffee Mate for my coffee. I am being generous by calculating 5 points for plain, unglazed donut.

For lunch I ate my home-cooked brown rice spaghetti with meat sauce and spinach. Let’s say that I spent 10 points on lunch (and I am being extremely generous again; it should be more like 8 points, truth be told). That leaves me with about 8 points for dinner. I am not even that hungry anyway. Just to be on the safe side, I have reserved a 2oz turkey patty (2 points), broccoli (zero), and spinach (zero) for dinner. That adds up to only 2 points. I still will have 6 points for snack before or after dinner, an apple, possibly, and herbal tea: chamomile. I do not intend to use the 6 points. This is what I mean when I say that I am a strategic food planner: SIX POINTS LEFT!

I have not dipped (and will not dip) into my 35 splurging points for this week. I believe that I may not need to use these extra points. Even as I say this, the plain dark chocolate bar in my kitchen cabinet is calling my name. Right now, I am completely deaf. My hearing will return around Wednesday, hump day, when the work load gives me a craving for chocolate. Right now, I am safe; so are my points! Doing great! Just great!!
