Green Thumb Legacy

Green Thumb Legacy:

I used to go with my mother to our numerous plots of land where she cultivated the earth, planted some seeds, and added her natural talent to their well being. They thrived, bloomed, and yielded in abundance. Now I know the reason she loved to tend the earth so much. It is so therapeutic, a complete workout, and so, so pleasing to all senses. She bequeathed her green thumb to me, one of my numerous legacies. I am eternally grateful.

Nature's Showiest Masterpiece: The Rose
Although a rose of any color can simply mean gratitude and simplicity, over time they have been attributed to a variety of emotions and occasions, which is discussed below. Combinations of roses can also show different feelings and emotions.
                                                                   A symbol a step
Red—love
Pink—gratitude
Yellow--friendship
Orange—desire
White—purity
Lavender—enchantment
Burgundy--unconscious, uncontrived beauty
Peach--gratitude, appreciation, admiration or sympathy
Blue--mystery or something desired, but unattainable

HERSTORY
This is not HIStory. This is HERstory. My mother's inspiring life unfolded throughout my own and has been the force propelling me in all my achievements. She did not go about claiming women's rights, but you knew she lived it daily. She did not go about claiming her place. People knew she earned it and accorded it to her. She was so multi-talented that there was nothing she could not do: mother of nine, caterer, bakery owner, supermarket owner, gardener, leadership roles in many social and religious organizations, wife of a chief/nobility, and more.

My mother's earthly journey ended on April 18, 1990. I miss her every day. I cry for her daily. This blog is in memory of how much she loved to churn the earth and make it do her bidding, how much she loved to feed her family and others whom she made instant family, and how much she inspired me and hundreds of women who dubbed her "Everyone's Mother."

Chief M.K. and Lolo Virginia Ohanenye
She brought eleven children into this world. Nine lived, but over the years, death took away four. We are now five. My mother taught me so much about everything with words and without words for the most part. She loved to bake all kinds of cakes: cupcakes, wedding cakes, any type of cake. She loved pastries and to cook all kinds of dishes. She loved everyone's children as her own, and she never did wrong to anyone or their children.

Chief M.K. Ohanenye, Frances Ohanenye, and Marce Ohanenye

She loved me so much, more so since I was her mother reincarnated. Both my parents immersed all of us in the deepest well of love. My mother thrived on giving us unique names to help us remember the circumstances of our birth. She gave me many names.

Lolo Mrs. Virginia Nwokwu Ohanenye, "Odozi Aku" (the Safe-keeper of Wealth) has been immortalized in numerous places. Her uncountable legacies remain. This site is a little addition to the impact she made on me.

My soul misses you very much, Mama.

Ever grateful to have been your daughter,

Eucharia Frances N. K. I. Ohanenye
I am Frances Ohanenye, a woman who is eternally grateful for all she has been given. I thank my mother and my father for not withholding anything in my upbringing. I miss both of them in ways words and actions can never portray. I thank God for giving them to me as my parents. No child could have been luckier. On this day, I celebrate my heritage, "Africa Day," at my church, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Smyrna, Georgia.
